Red Snapper’s Story
We pride ourselves on championing animals who might not get a second glance elsewhere, regardless of age, quirks or health. Red Snapper came to us with two strikes against him: he was 9-years old and FIV-positive.
Despite common misunderstanding, FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) is not a death sentence, nor is it something to be feared. It spreads only through deep puncture wounds, not through casual cat behavior like grooming or sharing food bowls or the litter box. Neutered males like Red Snapper are incredibly unlikely to spread the virus at all. Sadly, cats like him are often unfairly overlooked in shelters because of the stigma of FIV.
But we saw Red Snapper for who he really is: a wonderful, loving soul who just needed someone to see his true self. After 15 weeks of waiting, Red Snapper found his Human. His journey reminds us why we do what we do. FIV-positive cats hold a very special place in our hearts at Second Chance Pet Adoptions, and we’re proud to help them find the love they deserve. Every time one of these misunderstood kitties finds their happy ending, we’re reminded of the power of love, patience, and education.
Charlie’s Angels’ Story
We received an urgent plea from an overcrowded county shelter: four tiny, one-month-old kittens, desperate and crying for help. We rushed to the shelter and scooped up the precious babies – three girls and a boy, whom we named after Charlie’s Angels: Sabrina, Jill, Kelly, and Bosley.
The Angels were welcomed into the arms of one of our incredible kitten fosters who showered them with love. They learned how to kitten – chasing toys, pouncing on each other, and discovering the joys of life alongside their foster dog sibling and were spoiled in every way possible.
As they grew, so did their personalities: Sabrina, the fearless leader; Jill, the curious explorer; Kelly, the snuggly sweetheart; and Bosley, the doting brother. When they were old enough, they made their debut at our Adoption Center, ready to find their forever homes.
An Angel’s dreams always come true. Charlie’s Angels found their forever home with a family who was looking for only one cat but fell in love with four. Now named Spicy Tacocat, Sausage Scarface, Porkchop Express and Theo Von Bosley the 3rd, the Angels’ family is intact and surrounded by love.
Laverne and Shirley’s Story
A stray cat, Scarlett, had been trapped by a good Samaritan to have her spayed at a local shelter. Surprise! Scarlett was pregnant! At the shelter she gave birth to two tiny kittens, Laverne and Shirley.
Rescued from the shelter, the newborn kittens moved into a Second Chance foster home for round-the-clock care of bottle-feeding, weight monitoring, and constant attention. After strengthening and growing, they received the happy ending they all deserve when Laverne and Shirley were adopted by their foster, who couldn’t bear to part with them. Momma Scarlett found her forever home too, with the daughter of a Second Chance volunteer. What started as a story of hardship turned into a beautiful tale of hope and new beginnings.
Columbus and Tulip’s Story
Rescuing senior cats isn’t always easy, especially when they’re a bonded pair, but every animal deserves a chance at love – no matter their age or circumstance.
Columbus and Tulip were two of the sweetest seniors we’d ever met: inseparable, always cuddling and grooming one another. They loved people just as much, soaking up affection and greeting visitors with their purrs. Calm and mellow, Columbus and Tulip wanted nothing but a cozy spot to nap, a little attention, and the promise of staying together forever.
Despite their charm and loving nature, Columbus and Tulip waited 207 days to be found by their Humans and were adopted. Now, they’re spending their golden years together, just as it was always meant to be. The story of Columbus and Tulip, now renamed Captain Midnight and Little Sister, is proof that love knows no age—and that bonded pairs are worth the wait.
“Both kitties are a happy addition to the house. Although they spar often they seem to like each other,” reports their new Human. “Captain puts his paw around Sister’s neck to groom her; she closes her eyes in pleasure… until he gets rough. Then… Battle on! They chase and ambush each other as only brother and sister can.”
Toaster Strudel’s Story
Meet Toaster Strudel, a kitty whose journey is a testament to the power of compassion and perseverance. Born with congenital eye malformations including underdeveloped eyes, cataracts, and a dislocated lens and battling persistent ear infections, she faced challenges from the start. But Toaster Strudel’s is a story of hope.
As she underwent a procedure to freeze and remove the hairs around her eyes to prevent ulcerations, her spirit remained strong, and her quirky charm endeared her to everyone.
Her miracle came when a Second Chance volunteer fell in love and made her a part of their family. Today, Toaster Strudel – now renamed Baby Girl – is thriving in her forever home, surrounded by warmth, affection, and the care she always deserved. In the words of her new human, “Baby Girl is the perfect blend of sweet and sassy. I could not have hoped for a better addition to the family.”
