Cheri. Deborah. Judy.
These are the names of the three women who, in 1987, opened their homes and backyards to stray and abandoned animals in need of food, shelter, and love.
Butter Beans. Pinto Bean. Lima Bean.
These are the names of three dogs affectionately known as “the Bean Family.” In the fall of 2016, Butter Beans was living in an overcrowded kill shelter until Second Chance Pet Adoptions rescued her and gave her the gifts of comfort, sustenance, and affection in a foster home. A week after we took her in, we learned she was pregnant. Thanks to the care we could provide, Butter Beans had a healthy pregnancy and labor. Rather than entering a world that would have been lonely, scary, and growing cold, the puppies—Pinto Bean and Lima Bean—were warm, safe, and adored. By early 2017, all three Beans had found their forever families.
From three women and backyard cat condos, to officially incorporating as a nonprofit and opening an adoption center, Second Chance Pet Adoptions has come a long way in the 30 years since we began. You—our dedicated community—have made it possible for us to rescue over 12,000 cats and dogs. You have generously donated your time caring for cats at in the facility, washing dogs to raise money, and more. You have sent monetary gifts, big and small. You have answered the call to foster an animal—including the injured, the sick, and the young—or send much-needed supplies our way. And most of all, you have chosen to adopt an animal in need of a second chance. This special anniversary has only been made possible by your commitment to our rescue efforts.
We’re very proud of where Second Chance is today: we have a facility that holds 120 animals and welcomes over 3,500 visitors per year, a website that receives over 155,000 visitors per year, and almost 700 active volunteers helping us care for animals and raise money. Even with this growth, the guiding principles upon which Cheri, Deborah, and Judy founded the oldest no-kill animal rescue organization in the area live on to this day, three decades later. And we’re nowhere near done—we intend to do this work for as many decades as it takes to find a home for every animal in need. We know we can do more with you in our corner.
YOU are an important part of the Second Chance family that’s been created over the past 30 years. Homeless cats and dogs are counting on your continued support as we celebrate this milestone and look to the future. Would you confirm your promise to be there for the animals with a contribution to our “$30 for 30” campaign? Seize the opportunity to be a part of this momentous occasion and to celebrate 30 years of giving love a second chance.
