February 2017
Second Chance will be everywhere you want to be in 2017!
Hurricanes Pet Supply Drive and South Plaza Party

As we celebrate Second Chance’s 30th anniversary in 2017, we’re hosting events where you can celebrate with us all over town! We’ll be back to our old favorites (like Bottle Revolution in June and three Bark in the Park games over the summer) but we’re also really excited to be planning events in new-to-us places–and you’ll want to be there, too! For example, we’ve partnered up with the Carolina Hurricanes, who will be collecting supplies for us the whole week of March 13, and we (and our animals!) will close out the week by hanging out with you at the South Plaza Party. We’re also hooking up with Crank Arm for a downtown brewery event on April 9, then shooting up to North Raleigh for the Lafayette Village Wine Walk on April 20!

This year promises to be exciting, so keep an eye on our calendar & Facebook page so you don't miss out!

Meet Clarence

Clarence before surgery. His left eye suffered from a melting ulcer and recurring infections.

Nearly everyone who attended our Paws and Pours wine-tasting event this month at BottleMixx (where we raised $2,700!) fell in love with Clarence. Clarence is a 5-month-old baby boy who purs louder than any cat you’ve ever heard! This sweet kiddo also “makes biscuits” pretty much non-stop, too.

Clarence’s super soft coat is gorgeous, but people were really smitten with this one-eyed kitten thanks to his indomitable spirit! After a series of eye infections necessitated the removal of his left eye, Clarence didn’t skip a beat. Ask anybody who watched him play in his cage during the event–having a “permanent wink” won’t keep this guy down!

Clarence after surgery. After treating multiple infections, it became clear to us that the best way for Clarence to live infection-free was to remove the eye. Clarence was a “cone head” for a few days and that annoyed him (interfering with his play!), but otherwise, he barely seemed to notice he’d had surgery and kept right on playing…and purring!

Giving Clarence a second chance fills our hearts to the brim…but has the opposite effect on our bank account. Caring for our little buddy has been costly! Until Clarence meets his purrfect forever family, Second Chance continues to provide him with everything he needs to stay happy and healthy in his foster home.

Can you invest in Second Chance?

Even if you can’t adopt an animal right now, there are other ways to help homeless, stray, and abandoned animals! We always need help taking care of the animals in our facility and staffing the many fun and exciting events we’re a part of all year long. It’s not too late to help. Animals are waiting on you, right here, right now.
