Adira Had a Pawsome Time at Racing for Rescues–With You, and Because of You!

Because you registered, bought raffle tickets, and donated, the 2019 Racing for Rescues 5K/fun walk event brought in $46,000! Adira is here to give you all the post-event updates:

Hi everyone! Adira here! Some of you may remember the awful condition I was in when Second Chance rescued me back in November of 2018. As you can see in my picture above, taken at Racing for Rescues earlier this month, I’m a healthy 50 pounds now…but I weighed less than half that after I was hit by a car and left for dead on the side of the road.

As you can see, those miserable days are behind me now! I am still living with my foster mama and recovering from the last of my surgeries, but I am well enough to go out and meet people (potential new families!), thanks to generous folks like YOU supporting me along the way!

One event that I am SO GLAD I got to go to was Racing for Rescues! The rain held off and I got to meet a great many of the almost-500 people who registered to run or walk! My buddy Jake and I had a blast at Dorothea Dix Park–we are so grateful for all the humans, other doggies, and kittens (yep, even kittens–can you believe it?) who came out to help give princesses–um, I mean, dogs–like me (and cats, too) a second chance to find love.

While I’ve got you on the horn, my foster mama asked for me to pass along just a little more information for those who may have missed it:

  • From start to finish, photographers were with us every step of the way. They have generously provided hundreds of photos so we can all relive the good times! You can see the event gallery HERE and the finish line photos HERE.
  • WOW, we’ve got some fast runners in our family! I may still be recovering from a broken hip, but I hope one day to be half as fast as Niles, Bastion, and Swenson, the pups who brought home the Fastest Dog awards! Humans can find their race results by clicking HERE.
  • I’m sendy extra sloppy kisses to Lisa Best and the BEST Kittens and Billy Bear team, Laurie Gengo of Triangle Law Group, board member Nikita Gowin, and doggy foster mom Marguerite-Marie Ostro! Why? Because they won the fundraising awards, which means they helped a whoooole lotta animals like ME!
  • We announced the Visa gift card raffle winners at the event, too! The $500 Visa gift card was raffled off to Shannon Sunset, and Ellen McKim brought home the $250 Visa gift card. The winner of the $100 Visa gift card, Kathryn Birkett, donated it back to Second Chance so they can provide more medical care to animals like me! How cool is that?!

Well, it’s been fun catching up with you today! Big hugs to each and every person who has played a part in changing–and saving–my life! I hope the next PUPdate you hear from me is that I have been adopted, but in the meantime, I’ll be living my best life with my foster pack! Thank you for giving me a second chance and for supporting Racing for Rescues!

All my love,

Adira
