Farley is Home at Last!

To everybody at the adoption shelter,

When I walked into the shelter on September 19th, and saw Farley in person I fell in love. Although he was not friendly, did not want to be touched, held, looked at, or played with, I knew there was something special about him. When we first got home he hid, and when found he hissed, and swatted at us.

His first few days were tough for him. He had to learn to feel comfortable in a house, and that we were not there to hurt him. He slowly was introduced to more and more of the house as the days passed. By the end of the first week we had a break through. I was sitting on the couch and he came and sat next to me. It only lasted a minute, but it was the beginning. My dog up until this point lived in fear, as Farley would smack his head while he was sleeping. The first week was one filled with patience.

By the second week a remarkable change took place. Farley would let us pet him. My kids were playing with him, my husband would be laying on the couch, and Farley would come and lay down on him. I woke up one morning and Farley was sleeping with our Lab Lily on Lily's blanket. They are now the best of friends. They chase each other through the house. Farley now seeks you out for love. Farley has an unbelievable personality.

This is the second time I have taken a chance on adopting a cat from you that did not seem to want to be loved. I am now a true believer that it is the cats that don't seem to embrace love right away, and that have to learn how to love that give the most unimaginable amount of love back. I am glad I found Farley, because I know have a cat that fits into our house perfectly. The love and laughter he gives us now was worth the rough start.

So if you ever get another cat with Farley's not so great personality, I want prospective adopters to realize that first impressions are not everything. A cat that has not had love or a home have to be given time to not only adjust to the new people, but to their surroundings as everything is so new to them. Once the love and trust grows you realize that your patience has paid off. The love you get back is tremendous.

Once again I thank you for giving me a chance with Farley. There is absolutely no chance that he will be returning to you. He has found a home, and family for life.

Thank you for everything.

Melissa
